Methodology
CHA has completed a proof-of-concept investigation of a simplified (robust) process for transferring legacy safety study data from traditional, unstructured paper reports into a structured electronic data archive (e.g. relational database). The methodology employs identification of relevant study parameters and results and the manual entry of this information into a structured electronic workbook (data-entry tool). Upon completion of this data-entry process, the tool generates an XML record based on the ToXML standard, a public domain communication standard for chemical and toxicological data exchange. These records are subsequently loaded into an XML database designed (structured) using the ToXML schema and are now readily available for intelligent search and query utilizing either internally available, standard search utilities or higher level informatics applications from third-party suppliers.
